DAINTREE AND CAPE TRIBULATION

Daintree and Cape Tribulation is a rare and unique experience of the reef meeting the thick unspoilt World Heritage Rainforest.
In 1970, cattle ate the fruit of a tree and were fatally poisoned, scientists then discovered, the idiot fruit (Ideospermum australiense), was one of the rarest and most primitive flowering plant on the planet.
Locals knew the tree as a timber plant - ribbonwood - but from a scientific point of view, the species, which is thought to be about 135 million years old, proved the 1,200 sq km region of the Daintree was truly ancient. It was also found to have 12 of the 19 primitive flowering plant families on earth, the highest concentration on the planet.
It was listed as world heritage in 1988 and is home to some of the most ancient plant species in the world, as well as a fantastic variety of animal and bird species including the rare and endangered cassowary.

There is a great selection of accommodation, activities and walking tracks to capture a true rainforest experience.
Visitors can cruise the Daintree River spotting large crocodiles, birdlife and nature at its best.
